With all dogs, it only takes one bad experience to make them nervous about things for a long time to come.  Whether it be mistreatment or abandonment from previous owners, an attack by another dog, or even just a bad experience from a previous groomer.
If you own a nervous dog or rescue dog im sure you already know this means it takes a long long time to build the trust with humans, even if the environment is completely different from before.  This works the same way with their groomer.  It can take anything from a few weeks to a few years to be complete between dog and groomer, and im hoping you'll understand this.
With your dogs first few visits, i will not do anything your pet doesn't want me to do, unless absolutely necessary for health reasons, eg. extremely long nails, bad mats etc.  This has a detrimental effect on the building of trust and will therefore take longer for the dog to relax in the long term.  All work will be attempted, and I will stop if he/she is not tolerating it.  Its better in the long run to take it slowly.
Once your pet has been to see me a few times, they will begin to relax and realise that this is actually a good experience that doest hurt, and their trusted owners will come back for them.  This is when i can start the full grooming process on them with ease, and making them look like the posh pooch you want them to be.  You will then have a happy dog, who is willing to go to the groomers and leave relaxed and looking great.  The welfare and happiness of your pet is my main priority.

All of the above applies to puppies too, but for very different reasons.
When puppies come into the world, it can seen a very big and counting place.
They have an awful lot to learn through training and routine, and going to the groomers is no different.
They should be introduced to the groomers from as early as possible, around 12 wks, after all their vaccinations are in place, so they can get into the grooming routine and not be scared, which unfortunately does happen when left too late.
There is so much for them to learn here, that again it does take time.  Their first visit will just be a wash and blowdry and of course anything else they are happy for me to do, second visit a bit more and so on.  By the time they are 6 months old, providing they have visited regularly, they will be settled into the routine and ready for their first full haircut.  Puppies keep their baby coat until they are around 2 years old when they develop their full adult coat.

Pets with matted coats need extra attention during their grooming session.
Mats left in a pets coat only grow tighter and can strangle the skin.
Groomed to 'Paw'fection does not wish to cause undue stress to your pet.
Mats can be extremely difficult to remove, and usually require the pet to receive a shaved type haircut.  Groomed to 'Paw'fection will de-mat your pet and then recommend either a hairstyle that suits your lifestyle or a grooming schedule to suit the hairstyle.
When de-matting is necessary, removing heavily matted coats includes the risk of nicks, cuts or abrasions due to warts, moles or skin folds trapped in the mats.  Heavily matting can also trap moisture near the pets skin allowing mould, fungus or bacteria to grow, causing skin irritations that existed prior to the grooming process.

Throughout the grooming process, we take great care to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of your dog, however we will not be liable for any pre-existing conditions and problems found throughout the grooming process.

In the event of injury or illness, a vet may be sought, and all costs will be at the owners expense unless proven to be a direct result from Groomed to 'Paw'fection.
All customers must sign a dog grooming customer consent form and are asked to inform us of any medical problems, conditions, allergies etc.
You must inform us if your dog has aggressive tendencies.  A muzzle may be used as and when necessary and we reserve the right not to groom a dog if it shows unmanageable aggression, anxiety.  In such an event the owner will be contacted immediately and asked to collect their dog.

The grooming of elderly dogs is undertaken entirely at the owners risk.

In the event of severely matted/overgrown coats and the need to clip down, the owner should be aware the irritation might occur from the shaving process.  These mats tend to be located very close to the skin, around the ears, neck, armpits and groin.  The owner agrees that Groomed to 'Paw'fection will not be held liable for any after grooming effects or problems uncovered on a severely matted or neglected coat.
An extra charge will incur for badly matted dogs; or behaviour issues.
